Shnar Gru/Grond

Edit this page (last edited June 23, 2004)

This is the massive battering Ram used by Mordor to crack open the gates of Minas Tirith. The model will probably be almost a foot in length, and about 1/2 foot wide. I'm going to have 6 cave trolls pushing it, and on each side will be a platform long enough to hold about 8 to 10 orc archers. I'll also have to devise rules for how this beast works (maybe there will be something in the Siege of Gondor suppliment).

Is that the big thing that looks like a rat wif fire in its head? I watched ROTK 2day lol.

Yeah, it's being pulled by those big Rhino-looking beasts. That's another project I'd love to do

If you pay attention, the orcs are all chanting "Grond Grond Grond" during that scene.

There is a great guide on Grond in Issue 4 of The Palantir

Grond is the big ram that Trolls use to crack open the gates of Minas Tirith. It's named after the great hammer of old, the weapon of Morgoth (Sauron's boss). And I only watched the movie twice, though I did just get the DVD. This info doesn't come from the movies though (except when the orcs are all chanting "Grond Grond Grond"), it comes from the books. I read those about once a year...

And try as I might, I can't get thepalantir.org to come up. There are just way too many graphics for my poor dial-up connection to pull

Shame. Id help, but I dont know the first thing about seige weapons.

In the book, Grond plays a pretty big part in the siege, pages are devoted to it.

Hey, one of my local GW stores (im from Australia) told me the other day that there is a grond model coming out very soon. From what they think it could possibly be with the battle for pelannor fields supplement that comes out in August Maybe it must be worthwhile waiting to see what GW does before creating one of your own.

Mjkool

It probably will come out in August with the Pelannor Fields supplement as that is when the Oliphant come out as well.

King Of Gondor
